I have this huge nerdy side to me, and from that originates a permanent thirst for knowledge.
It also causes me to take interest in the oddest of things.

since 1997
The Web Kid

When I was 13, I got a computer with internet access.
My uncle linked me selfhtml.org. My first website was online later the same day.
This first fascination never left.

HBK Braunschweig School of Art

The Design Student

Right after graduating from boarding school, I succeeded to enter HBK Braunschweig School of Art as a communication design student.

I enrolled in a long list of classes, but these three held most of my attention.

In 2005, I won an an award by shooting eggs with a homemade cannon at the University of Braunschweig.

2005 — 2008
The Web Guy

bitlogic Internet und Services AG

Working in IT

Mostly to support myself, in 2005 I started working part-time at bitlogic, a software company providing multichannel e-commerce applications.

bitlogic was a great employer, and I even had the chance to work directly with IBM Germany, one of their largest customers at the time.

For our work with IBM Germany, we received the IBM Work That Works Silver Award of 2007.

2006 — 2009
The Green Guy

ökoscouts e.V.

Going Green

In 2006, while at art school and working at bitlogic, I joined ökoscouts e.V., a local eco group. They maintain a community garden, a swap store, and offer a full calendar of events and seminars focussing on youth eco education.

We had the crazy idea to go green and stay moderate.

My responsibilities grew to include the instruction of employees and trainees and a seat on the managing committee.

jCatalog Software AG

Back to Working in IT

In 2009 I was hired by jCatalog, a software company specializing in web-based master data management and e-procurement applications.

They tasked me to improve and standardize their vast user interfaces across 8 applications, for two completely different markets.

UI Design for Business Applications

jCatalog is an amazing employer, to whom I owe almost five years of invaluable experience in my field.

Their customers are spread across all continents, counting well over 250 medium businesses and more than a dozen international corporations.

Structure And Meaning First

Working at jCatalog has taught me that the real power in UI Design lies with layout, not decoration. No Lorem Ipsum, structure and meaning always come first.

Today, user interfaces made by me are responsive, based on CSS preprocessors and UI frameworks, and are easily flavoured via themes by the customers themselves, or with the aid of jCatalog's implementation partners.
